It publishes original, rigorous and impactful legal scholarship that contributes to the development of law, justice and public policy in Nigeria, Africa and the wider world. The journal appears twice a year, in print and online.
Our purpose
UJLJ was established as a scholarly platform for the advancement of legal research and jurisprudential discourse. As a publication of the Faculty of Law, it reflects the University's broader vision of being a globally rated institution committed to delivering excellent educational experiences with significant societal impact. It is anchored within a faculty recognised for its commitment to academic excellence, innovation and practical legal education, and serves as a forum for robust scholarly engagement on contemporary legal issues affecting Nigeria and beyond.
The journal exists to promote high-quality legal scholarship: doctrinal and comparative legal analysis, critical jurisprudential inquiry, interdisciplinary socio-legal research, and policy and legislative reform discourse.
Vision and mission
Our vision is to become a leading law journal in Nigeria and one of the foremost platforms for legal scholarship in Africa. Our mission is to provide a credible and intellectually robust platform for the dissemination of legal research that informs scholarship, legal practice, judicial reasoning and public policy.
Peer review and house style
UJLJ operates a rigorous double-blind peer review system designed to ensure academic integrity and scholarly excellence. Each manuscript is assessed for originality and relevance, methodological soundness, depth of legal analysis, citation compliance and clarity of expression. The journal adheres strictly to the Nigerian Association of Law Teachers (NALT) Uniform Format and Citation Guide for Legal Research Writing in Nigeria.
Open access
Everything UJLJ publishes on this site is free to read and download from the day it appears. There is no subscription and no paywall.
Submissions
The areas of law we cover, and the manuscripts that fall outside our remit, are set out on the Aims & Scope page. Submissions are made through this website, and the Author Guidelines carry everything an author needs: manuscript preparation, the NALT house style and citation forms, how review works, fees, ethics and copyright. Published work is in the Archives.
